Cappie Pondexter scored a game high 30 points and had her usual Cappie-like game to lead the Liberty to a game 3 victory over the Indiana Fever.  But when asked her thoughts in a post game interview in front of the 16,000 plus appreciative fans, Pondexter said, “I have two words..KIA  VAUGHN!!!…If you didn’t know her before, you know her now.”  And with that, Pondexter hit the nail on the head.  Juggling her rotation masterfully, Anne Donovan started Plenette Pierson for the injured Janel McCarville, who earlier in the day suffered a severely  sprained  left ankle, and brought in Vaughn who provided a physical low-post prescence for the Liberty against a like-wise physical Tammy Sutton Brown & Jessica Davenport.

Vaughn hit a personal playoff record of 13 points and helped the Liberty snatch a game 3 victory from a very confident looking Indiana team. “Tammy and Ebony and Jessica Davenport, they’re all aggressive and that’s how they are, Vaughn said of her play against the Fever post players.  “So I just knew that I had to come out there and be aggressive. I’m a strong girl…I knew I had to be aggressive and push them around and basically be the one to go out there and do it first.”

Fever forward Tamika Catchings, 21 points & 6 rebounds,  also had some accolades her Team USA teammate.  “I thought Kia did great.  She came out obviously with Janel (McCarville) out.  Somebody had to step up.  She was all over the boards, offensively and defensively.  I thought she had a really good game with them.  In order for them to keep winning she has to keep stepping up like that.”

Next up for the Liberty, the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Dream.

FEVER FORCE GAME 3

Tamika Catchings had 17 points and 13 rebounds to help the Indiana Fever beat the New York Liberty 75-67 on Sunday night to tie their best-of-three Eastern Conference semifinal series.  Cappie Pondexter’s game-high 24 points wasn’t enough to propel NY to a road victory over the defending eastern conference champions.
