TENNIS: Serena Wins WTA Year-End Tournament, Ends Season Ranked 3rd

2012-10-28

In front of 16,000-plus sold-out tennis loving fans at Sinan Erdem Arena,  Serena Williams completed what has been a dream season by winning the year-end the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championship, having defeated Maria Sharapova, 6-4, 6-3 in the final Sunday. With this win, Serena captured her seventh WTA title of the year, following victories in Charleston, Madrid, Wimbledon, Stanford, the Olympics and the US Open – it is her second-best season total, after capturing eight back in 2002. “I would say it’s pretty much the best season of my career, a little bit of a slow start though, so I have to give it to 2002 – but there’s always 2013,” she added.

This was her 3rd career year-end championship.
