BOXING: Christina Cruz becomes the most decorated boxer in New York’s Daily News Golden Gloves History

2013-04-19 – Brooklyn, NY – Christina Cruz (Atlas Cops & Kids) won her seventh consecutive Daily News Golden Gloves championship on Friday night at Brooklyn’s brand new Barclay Center, becoming the most decorated champion in the tournament’s illustrious history.  “Words can’t even express what I feel right now,” Cruz said. “It means a lot, especially coming from New York.”

Cruz dominated her opponent Welley Walo (Mendez BC) to take a 5-0 decision in the 125lb weight class.

Consider the magnitude of her accomplishment – Cruz, broke former Golden Glove champion Mark Breland record of five consecutive championships last year, and this year Cruz passed David Villar for the most titles in the tournament’s 86-year history. She now stands alone as the greatest Golden Gloves competitor ever and owns the title of “Most decorated Boxer’ in a tournament.

Christina Cruz...seven & counting
