Candace Helps Ekat Punish Wisla

Candace Parker did a little bit of everything on Sunday to fire UMMC Ekaterinburg to an 84-50 triumph over Wisla Can-Pack Krakow in the battle for third place in the EuroLeague Women.

Parker scored 21 points, pulled down seven rebounds and came up with a game-high six steals as the Russian outfit ended its Final Four in Valencia with a resounding victory.

The USA international, one of the top players in the world, confirmed after that game that she had signed on for another campaign with UMMC.

UMMC, still smarting from their 87-79 Semi-Final defeat to three-time defending champions Spartak Moscow Region on Friday, trailed Wisla 17-12 at the end of the opening quarter.

But they took command late in the second period with a 10-0 run for a 38-26 advantage.

Wisla stayed within striking distance early in the third quarter, closing the gap to 40-33 on a Janell Burse put-back.

UMMC almost immediately after put the game out of reach with a 15-0 spurt to claim a 57-35 stranglehold on the contest.

Ann Wauters had all 14 of her points in the first half for Ekaterinburg, who will now try to beat Spartak to the domestic title in Russia.

Both sides are in the Semi-Finals of the Superleague Women.

Sandrine Gruda finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks for Ekat.

Iziane scored 11 points in defeat for the Polish team.

A minute of silence in Valencia’s La Fonteta was observed before the game as a show of respect for President Lech Kaczynski and dozens of other members of Poland’s leadership, who died in a plane crash on Saturday.
