WNBA: The Liberty defeat defending champs at the Garden

New York City – Tina Charles scored a career-high 32 points in a brilliant performance to lead the Liberty to an 87-80 win over Maya Moore and the defending champion Minnesota Lynx on Sunday.  “Our Focus, just us being engaged and growing as a team. Charles said after the game.”  We are going to enjoy this win but we know we have to stay humble.” she continued. Charles also posted her team and league-best eighth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.

Cappie Pondexter had one of her best all-around games of the season, as she and Charles combined to score 50 of the Liberty’s 87 points. ”This was a big homestand for us,” said Pondexter, who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for New York. ”Now we’ve got to carry this over to the road.”

Maya Moore led the way with 25 points for the Lynx who were playing without injured all-stars Seimone Augustus and Rebekkah Brunson.
