WNBA: Liberty fall to Sky in Home Opener

Elena Della Donne 'skyes' for 2 of her game high 23 points

Madison Square Garden, NY – The Liberty  made their long-awaited return to The Garden after three years at Prudential Center in Newark NJ, but it was the visiting team that left the newly transformed Garden with a 79-65 win.   Sky forward Elena Della Donne, last years rookie of the year, led all scorers with 23 points.  “We made sure to really simplify our offense at that point and just make reads off of their defense.”  Della Donne said.  ” My teammates were incredible making the correct reads.”

For NY, newcomer Tina Charles recorded her 81st career double-double (in 132 games) with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Essence Carson scored 13 points in her second game since returning from a torn left ACL last season.  New point guard Anna Cruz had a team-high six assists in her second career WNBA game.
