WNBA: Elena Delle Donne Returns home as Sky host WNBA Preseason game at University of Delaware

CHICAGO, February 18, 2014 – The Chicago Sky announced that they will host the first ever WNBA preseason game in the state of Delaware on Tuesday, May 13 at 7pm. They will take on the Washington Mystics at the University of Delaware, the alma mater of the 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year Elena Delle Donne.

Elena began her esteemed career at the University of Delaware in 2009 where she became one of the most successful athletes in the school’s history. She was awarded the Senior CLASS Award and Honda Award in 2013, and First Team All-American and National Player of the Year candidate in her junior and senior seasons. The Chicago Sky drafted Elena with the second overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, and she will kick-off her second season with the Sky this May.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back Elena and her new team the Chicago Sky to the BOB this coming May,” said University of Delaware Athletic Director Eric J. Ziady. “We’re so proud of Elena’s accomplishments both on and off the court this past year at the professional level and know all of Delaware will welcome her back with open arms to the place where she and her teammates had so many memorable moments.”

“We’re so appreciative of the opportunity to bring our team to the University of Delaware to prepare for our upcoming season,” said Sky Head Coach & General Manager Pokey Chatman. “The tremendous support of the Delaware faithful was evident throughout Elena’s rookie campaign, so I anticipate a great environment for WNBA on the 13thof May.”
