Venus Williams advances to Australian Open semi-finals

For the first time since 2003, Venus Williams advances to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Williams looked very solid in her straight set 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

At 36-years old, Williams becomes the oldest to progress as far at a major since Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 1994.

Williams awaits either seventh seed Garbine Muguruza or her countrywoman CoCo Vandeweghe for a place in her first Australian Open final since losing to sister Serena in the 2003 decider.  (click here for match report)
