PHILADELPHIA — It was an energized atmosphere Saturday at USA vs. The World during Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Team USA Red started the day strong in the BMW Women’s 4x100m as the quartet of Tianna Bartoletta (Tampa, Florida), Candyce McGrone (Indianapolis), Kimberlyn Duncan (Katy,Texas) and Carmelita Jeter (Los Angeles) finished in 42.61 for the win. Jeter held off Jamaica’s Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce whose team was second in 42.90, and the USA Blue team of Dezerea Bryant (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), Kaylin Whitney (Clermont, Florida), Miki Barber (Montclair, New Jersey) and Cambrya Jones in fourth at 43.71.
Team USA swept the USATF Men’s and Women’s 4x200m relays as leadoff Candyce McGrone (Indianapolis), running in lane 8, kept the American women at the front of the stagger into the handoff to Kaylin Whitney. Whitney created space off the curve, handing off to Kimberlyn Duncan, who maintained pace on leg three with Cambria Jones anchoring the victory in 1:31.17.
Natasha Hastings (Brooklyn, New York) led wire to wire in the leadoff leg of the Nike Women’s 4x400m relay as she put down a 51.3 split before handing off to DeeDee Trotter (Los Angeles). Both Trotter and Phyllis Francis (Bryan, Texas) were under 51.43, giving Sanya Richards-Ross (Austin, Texas) an emotional final lap as she finished in a comfortable first place in her last appearance at USA vs. The World during Penn Relays.
