NEW YORK, June 2, 2010 – The WNBA named the Connecticut Sun’s Tina Charles the Rookie of the Month for games played in May.

Charles led all rookies and the Sun in points (16.6 ppg) and rebounds (9.6 rpg), starting all five games and ranking in the top five in rebounds and top 15 in points. Charles helped the Sun to a 3-2 record in May, scoring in double digits in each game, including two outings in which she racked up 20 or more points.

The first overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, Charles made a strong professional debut following an exceptional career at the University of Connecticut. She had a double-double in her first WNBA game, pouring in 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Chicago.

Below are the highlights of Charles’ outstanding month:
• May 15 vs. Chicago: Double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-61 win.
• May 21 vs. Atlanta: Career-highs 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in 97-82 loss.
• May 27 vs. Minnesota: 21 points, including 8-14 in field goals, and 10 rebounds in a 105-79 win.
• May 30 vs. Washington: 13 points, nine rebounds in 34 minutes in a 69-65 loss.
