The storied career of Sue Bird continues. Bird, hit a 3-pointer against the NY Liberty on Sunday to become the first player in WNBA history to score 5,000 points to go along with 2,000 assists. The Storm lost the game to NY at the Garden, but the All-Star did not lose sight of where she accomplished another milestone. “It’s pretty cool,” Bird said. “Rare that your family and friends are in the arena for that. If it was going to be somewhere this isn’t a bad place.”
Bird, the first pick of the 2002 draft, was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc to score 14 points. She is in 13th place on the league’s all-time scoring list.
