Simona Halep Wins First Career Grand Slam

~World No.1 defeats Sloane Stephens in 3 sets at Roland Garros~

It must have seemed like deja vu to the 26-year old World No.1 player.  Last year Simona Halep lost a heartbreaker after leading by a set and a break to an unseeded Jelena Ostapenko.

Fast-forward to Saturdays matchup with the 10th seeded Sloane Stephens, Halep again found herself  in the same situation, a set and a break down, before winning 3-6 6-4 6-1 to become the first Romanian woman to win the title since her business manager, Virgina Ruzici, in 1978.

“I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was fourteen,” an emotional Halep told the crowd after she won the match on a return error.

“I just tried not to repeat the last year, I did everything I could and it’s amazing what is happening now,” said Halep, who lost last year’s final to the unseeded Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia from a winning position.
