You get the feeling that every time Serena Williams steps on the court against old rival Maria Sharapova, it’s going to be a long night for the Russian. Monday night on Arthur Ashe Stadium was no different than the 19 previous times they’ve played, all won by Serena.
Williams now owns a 20-2 all-time career record against Sharapova despite Sharapova defeating Williams in the Wimbledon final in 2004.
“I just feel like her game really matches up well against mine.” Williams said. “I always said her ball somehow lands in my strike zone. I don’t know. It’s just perfect for me.” On this night, Williams was near perfect with a 6-1, 6-1 dominating performance.
