McENROE TO OPEN TENNIS ACADEMY IN NYC

McENROE TO OPEN TENNIS ACADEMY IN NYC

John McEnroe has chosen seven girls from an open tryout of more than 150 girls ages 7 -18 years old to attend his soon-to-be opened Tennis Academy on New York City’s Randall’s Island.

There were six partial and on full scholarships awarded.  The seven finalists and overall winners were announced before a sold-out crowd at halftime of the New York SportimesWorld Team Tennis match against the New York Buzz.  The winners got a chance to show off their skills as they played on center court with Kim Clijsters and McEnroe himself during halftime.

The winners were also greeted by Speaker of the NYC Council Christine Quinn and Council member and NYC Parks & Recreation Chair Melissa Mark-Vivorito as part of the halftime ceremony.

The John McEnroe Tennis Academy will be making it’s home at the state-of-the art Randall’s island facility.  The official opening of the academy will occur in September after the US Open.
