Mariah Bell captures silver in 2016 Skate America
Mariah Bell had the skate of her life Saturday, ticking off every element in her ‘East of Eden’ free. The 20-year-old, who placed eighth at this event last season, set personal bests across the board — including a segment-best, 130.67-point score in the second phase of the competition — and she pulled up from sixth in the short to second overall to claim the silver.
Bell finished second after posting the highest score of the day (a personal-best 130.67) in the free program, beating out Olympic medalists Mao Asada and Gracie Gold. Bell showed new confidence on the ice. As she finished her long program, the crowd came to its feet and Bell’s face lit up, matching her crystal-encrusted costume.
