September 2, 2019 – Madison Keys came into the U.S. Open as one of the hottest players on tour. Fresh off her win in Cincinnati, Keys looked poised to make a deep run at this year’s Open.
On the other side of the net, Elina Svitolina, who has been beaten by Keys twice in their three previous meetings, came in confident, fresh off her solid early-round wins, even defeating former champion Venus Williams in the second round.
Keys’ power never seemed to bother the World No.5 player, and Svitolina, not known for her serving prowesses, never faced a breakpoint and advanced to her first U.S. Open QF, 7-5, 6-4.
Next up for the World No. 5, will be Brit Johanna Konta, who upset the No.3 seed Karolina Pliskova who was in contention for the World No.1 seed.
